Photo epilation is a process that carries the light beam through the melanin to inhibit the growth of hair cells, permanently damaging them. Pulsed light is recommended for a progressively definitive epilation in cases of male and female hirsutism. The concept of hair reduction by Nd:YAG or PULSED LIGHT laser therapy is based on the theory of selective photothermolysis. Therefore, if the pulse duration is longer than the thermal relaxation time of the hair follicle (approximately between 3 and 10msec) but shorter than the TRT of the skin (approximately between 10 and 50msec) it is possible to obtain a selective damage of the follicle through the absorption of light by the target chromophore (melanin) keeping the surrounding tissue intact. The laser pulse can only destroy the roots that are in the growth phase (anagen).

In each region of the body there is a different percentage of growing hair, which is on average around 60%. The hair density will visibly decrease after a couple of treatments but, for a complete elimination, 3 to 6 sessions are normally necessary, at the rate of one treatment every 4-6 weeks, rarely more.
